At Se Gat
“At Se Gat” is approx 10km outside Brits on the Thabazimbi road, in the Krokodilpoort area, on the banks of the Crocodile River.
The Hartebeespoort dam’s catchment area is influenced by rain in the Johannesburg area.
Access to Island Route is dependent on the river level which is regulated by the Hartbeespoort Dam sluice gates. If you intend to do the Island Water Crossings, it is advisable to bring gumboots or any other suitable footwear in case you need to cross it by foot.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to close proximity of exotic wildlife species on neighbouring farms, no weapons, quads, motorcycles, pets or noisy vehicles are allowed on the premises or any part of the route.
The place is fairly primitive but offers some breathtaking scenery and a very good 4×4 alternative for those who have done Hennops and De Wildt for the umpteenth time!

The neighbouring game farm also has a lovely spot with a cluster chalet setup that can accommodate up to 10 people. This is a very scenic spot and further extends the 4×4 route.
There are also sections that very few will be able to conquer – at least for now until such time that the loose soil and rocks have settled.
The trail won’t damage your vehicle if you take care, you will be able to walk all obstacles and make a decision.
You will also be able to make recommendations in terms of what you would specifically prefer in further expansion of the route.
There are basic camping facilities with an awesome view of the river and plenty of shade.
