Blue Mountain Trail

Hike the Elgin Valley

Walking the wilderness along the southern side of the Elgin Valley

Following the success of the Green Mountain Trail, The Blue Mountain Trail was founded in 2015. This slackpacking, multi-day hike covering a 50km route through the UNESCO-declared Biosphere, offers sweeping views of the Overberg coastline, and close-up access to a unique plant life that literally gives the mountain its blue tinge. Wide open spaces, daily wine tasting, knowledgeable guides and overnights at Wildekrans Country House make this another bucket list experience in the Green Mountain collection.

Blue Mountain offers:

  • Ocean views
  • Friends for life
  • Great guiding
  • Wine farms
  • Farms stays
  • “The Blue Mountain Trail (sister to the Green Mountain Trail) takes hikers even closer to the ocean and into protected land on the opposite side of the Elgin Valley. This is a very manageable and well paced hike that offers three days of slackpacking that takes you past the Bot River, with views towards the wheat fields of the Overberg, before descending into the Elgin Valley. You spend time in the Paardeberg mountains above Kleinmond, and have the privilege of walking in the Kogelberg before following the Palmiet River on the last day.

In total the trail is just over 50km and winds through wilderness, reserves, vineyards and fruit producing farms, as well as through tall gorgeous protected fynbos.”

Dawn Jorgensen – The Incidental Tourist”

Blue Mountain Trail hikers get to enjoy the best of Bot River and Elgin wines, together with real country food, while staying at four star graded Wildekrans Country House.
