Monkeyland
Welcome to Monkeyland KZN
A true primate sanctuary
MonkeylandKZN is a free-roaming multi-specie primate sanctuary near Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal. It’s mission is to educate and foster greater understanding of our primate cousins and the threats and challenges they are facing.
Your tour starts with a short drive on a safari vehicle from the reception site to our 23-hectare hidden forest. From there, you will be taken on a guided walking tour during which your guide will help you look for the multiple species of free-roaming primates including capuchin monkeys, ringtail and black-and-white ruffed lemurs, buff-cheeked gibbons, squirrel monkeys, black howler monkeys and spider monkeys in their forest home. You will also experience countless other natural wonders whilst on your walking tour in our stunning forest. There’s a large secure parking lot, gift shop, children’s jungle gym, toilet facilities and prayer room at the reception area. Please note that our pizza restaurant is currently closed but we have hot and cold drinks, snacks and ice-cream available to buy at the gift shop and you are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy at the reception site before or after your tour.
Monkeyland-KZN is a must-see place whether KwaZulu-Natal is your home or you are visiting on holiday. The sanctuary is currently open from 9am to 4pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We also are open on public holidays and for additional days during school holidays.
Monkeyland-KZN is a 100% family-friendly eco-attraction and can be visited in any weather (subject to the right clothing). We have strict COVID protocols in place to ensure your safety without limiting the fun.
It is recommended that you wear comfortable closed in shoes for your guided walk through the forest and apply mosquito repellent.
Please note: We have a strict no-touch policy at all our sanctuaries. Look, photograph, video, but please don’t touch.
