The Forest

Skyway Trails is set in one of the last remaining natural forested valleys along the Sabie River, adjacent to the Kruger National Park. Ideally situated on the northern side of the river, and predominantly south facing, it is well protected from the Northern sun, and as a result remains relatively moist throughout the year. The valley forms a steep bowl that has preserved elements of true afro mountain forest and boasts a number of endangered plant species (Breonadia silcina, Pterocarpus anglolensis) including a rarely found orchid (Acampe praemorsa), which has now become the only second record of its existence in the Mpumalanga Province.

The wonderful botanical diversity supports a large variety of birds and animals that have made this forest there home. From the more commonly seen Purple-crested Turaco to the less common and rarely seen Narina Trogon, the forest canopy is alive with activity. On the forest floor, bushpigs, bushbuck and the rare red duiker go about there business undisturbed often foraging below a troop of Vervet monkeys moving through the valley from one fruiting tree to the other.

The valley is also home to a variety of aquatic animals that inhabit the perennial stream that cuts through forest on its way down to the Sabie River.

Skyway trails gives you a unique perspective of this forest environment and access to some of the most spectacular scenery in the region, with the sound of running water always in the background. It is sure to be an experience you will never forget. We are bird watching friendly.

“Experience the thrill of Mpumalanga’s longest Aerial Cable Trail”

Experience the freedom of gliding over one of the last remaining natural forested valleys along the Sabie River adjacent to the Kruger National Park. The aerial cable trail takes you down into the valley basin, stopping along the way on a number of elevated platforms to admire the natural vegetation, birdlife and the views of the forest floor below.

Each section of the trail varies in length from 70 to 230 m linking a total of 10 platforms, making the total length of the trail 1.2km. The trail has been designed and built to South African civil engineering standards and all the equipment has been designed specifically for this activity.

“It’s all monkey business”

The Tree-Top Challenge is an elevated obstacle course or high ropes course, made up of interconnecting poles or trees that support various obstacles or elements between them. All these interconnecting poles and trees form a giant “jungle gym” suitable for both young and old (adult) kids.

The course is the first of its kind in South Africa and is built to European Rope Course Standards, and has the latest continuous belay safety system imported from Switzerland. The course itself is made up of 19 exciting elements from balancing beams, rope bridges, spider’s webs and much more all ending on our 50m zip line. It’s suitable for people of all ages who are up for the challenge.
