Three Sisters Horse Trails
Three Sisters Horse Trails is situated 15km outside of Port Alfred on the R72 towards East London in the Eastern Cape. Adventurous horse riding and hiking trails down steep dunes onto secluded beaches, and through shady dune forests with stunning views out to sea. Follow tracks along the river, across wetlands. and through open farmland. Check out the beautiful Boran cattle with their calves, or spot indigenous game such as Bushbuck or Oribi. Ride for just one hour, or over several days!
Visit us for a farm-stay in a simple 1820’s style stone cottage with a sea view and friendly horses grazing in front of your verandah. Watch the cattle coming past for dipping, or help with a farm chore or two such as bottle-feeding an orphaned calf or grooming a horse. Braai on the deck, and check out the stars.
Alternatively for active people that love being right out in nature, hike on forest trails and camp out in our treehouse in the forest. River Treehouse is built high up in an old Yellowwood tree. A scenic and fairly easy 3.5km hiking trail follows the river through the forest from the farmhouse.

You will find us on ‘Tharfield’, a historic Settler farm covering approximately 2000ha, situated on the coast half way between Port Elizabeth and East London in the Eastern Cape. Our natural boundaries are formed by the Indian Ocean, the Riet and Kleinemonde rivers. A private game reserve forms the 4th boundary (see google map).
Chris looks after the long standing family business running free-range Boran cattle, while Jann runs the ‘3 Sisters Horse Trails’ and oversees the hiking trail. The simply constructed treehouse and stunning hikes through diverse and beautiful natural surroundings are Chris’s inspiration and are sure to awaken the imaginations of even the most grown up of adults, while your children will surely be enchanted by them!
