Great Brak River is located in the heart of the Garden Route, halfway between Mossel Bay and George. The town is known for its shoe factory where the famous Grasshopper shoes have been manufactured for decades. The Great Brak River runs through the town, flowing right around a small island just before it empties into the sea. It is one of the few islands in South Africa that is inhabited.
